I'll say something and he'll agree with me. Then later I'll say I've reconsidered and maybe it's not such a great idea. And he'll agree with me. And when I ask why did you not speak up to begin with, he'll tell me he didn't want to upset me. He wanted me to be comfortable. He wanted me to be happy.Well, darn it, am I such a controlling, narrow minded, unreasonable, opinionated person that you can't tell me honestly what you think? Maybe there's a grain of truth in that, but I think a lot of that has to do with HIM coming from something in his background that just doesn't like conflict.I understand that. I don't like conflict either. I don't like to deliver bad news. I don't like to hurt people's feelings. Boy has this gotten me in trouble in the past.So now I mostly speak up. Sometimes it kills me, but I do. And when I don't, cus I'm not perfect and I haven't totally gotten the hang of this yet, it usually comes back and bites me.Problem is, he still doesn't speak up. | | Would you report your friend? | | A thought have passed through my mind, that of reporting my friend for child neglect. I recently learned that my friend has left her 8 year old son with 103C fever and his three year old child at home all alone unsupervised. It was only for an hour but for me that is certainly one thing that should not be done.To put all the story in perspective, this woman has adopted a child but this mother has not made a bond with her child. My friend is saying that the child has some learning and communication problem. Her daughter has delayed speech. She is three years old and utters only very few words. My friend thinks that the adoption agency has tricked her. I had a head to head discussions quite a couple of times. I always tell her that she must accept her daughter as she is, that there is no health guarantee on a child of your own let alone an adopted one and she keeps saying that the adopting agency has tricked her.On one side I feel that it is my duty to report this case of child neglect on the other hand I feel loyal to my friend. Burdened by work in office and at home, we were not patient in listening, with quick interruptions by matter of fact instructions, usually accompanied with a loud voice, a long face... Their solutions were seldom invited, ideas and acts deviating from yours were immediately quenched as bad manners.It is not easy to learn how to listen. It might take months or years to learn. Learn how to listen to our kids with a concentrated mind, physically and mentally squatting to equal level, to show respect to their feelings and to their ego. Only in this way can they be brought up in a favorable environment in developing their ability of communication, problem solving and creativeness.
